About
Dr. Mariam Oyedeji-Amusa is an early career researcher and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in Botany and Plant Biotechnology, with her doctoral research focusing on the South African Meliaceae family through ethnobotanical, anatomical, chemical, and molecular systematics approaches.
Her research interests include natural product drug discovery, antimicrobial resistance, metabolomics, and sustainable agriculture. She is particularly passionate about using metabolomics to identify bioactive plant metabolites and understand their mechanisms of action against infectious diseases. Dr. Mariam also contributes to community-led climate resilience initiatives and environmental health projects across Africa.
With over 18 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters, she is an active voice in international scientific forums. Beyond her research, she is dedicated to research capacity building through mentorship, training in systematic reviews, and grant writing workshops aimed at empowering the next generation of African scientists.
