Lungelwa Zweni

About

Lungelwa was born and raised in Mount Ayliff (Eastern Cape- South African province). She pursued her BSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry at Rhodes University, graduating in 2023. She then completed her BSc Honors in 2024 at the University of Johannesburg, where she conducted research on Tomato curly stunt virus (ToCSV) and its impact on gene expression in resistant and susceptible tomato plant lines under the supervision of Dr. Farhahna Allie.

Her honors research sparked a deep interest in plant metabolomics and the biochemical changes that occur when plants interact with microbes. This passion led her to join the metabolomics research team, where she is currently investigating the effects of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on Asparagus laricinus. This research focuses on a comparative study between untreated and treated plants, utilizing advanced computational tools to analyze metabolomic changes and biochemical pathways under the supervision of Dr. Fidele Tugizimana.
